Habitat for Humanity
Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI)
is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry. Habitat works in
partnership with people in need to build and renovate decent, affordable
housing. The houses then are sold to Habitat's partner families, at no profit
and with no interest charged. Partner families invest hundreds of hours of their
own labor -- "sweat equity" -- into building their homes and the homes of
others.
The Board of Directors of the Nevada Area Affiliate is a active group of local
volunteers. This group has overseen the completion of ten projects since
forming in 1993. They raise funds for these projects through donations, a
monthly baked potato dinner and the annual rummage sale.
Partner Churches are local congregations that support the ministry of the Nevada
Area Affiliate of Habitat for Humanity in the following ways.....
As a congregation pray for the Ministry of the Nevada Area Affiliate.
As a congregation observe Habitat International Day of Prayer and Action each September.
As a congregation financially support the Nevada Area Affiliate with a minimum donation of $1.00 per church member at the groundbreaking of any new house start or the beginning of a house renovation.
As a congregation financially support Habitat for Humanity International with a minimum donation of $.50 per church member at the dedication of any new house or house renovation completed by the Nevada Area Affiliate.
As a congregation show your support of the Nevada Area Affiliate by promoting the work of Habitat for Humanity in your congregational publications and by way of public announcements.
As a congregation recruit volunteers for the Nevada Area Affiliate at a minimum standard of 10 volunteer hours annually per 100 church members. Volunteer hours would include, but not limited to... construction, fund-raising and providing meals for Habitat workers.
