Nevada Hosts Texas Youth Mission Team

We had the pleasure of hosting 77 youth and adults from Arborlawn United Methodist Church in Fort Worth, Texas from June 15th - 21st. This was one of many groups from the Central Texas Conference that were working in communities in south Missouri and northern Arkansas. They had a great time here in Nevada doing a lot of work and some even tried out our local restaurants. They especially talked about Casa Azteca and the White Grill. Abby Flookes, their director, told me that this was the sixth time that she had been involved in one of these trips and that she had never been welcomed and supported by their host church as much as what we did here in Nevada.

Thanks goes out to Julie Nelson who helped me coordinate details for the visiting team. To Bill and Andrea Gregory who provided a pork chop barbeque on Tuesday night. To a not so anonymous donor who bought brunch for the leadership team on Sunday morning at a local restaurant. To Kitty Scarborough, Jan Thompson, Constance Beaver, Sandie Strawn, Jimmie Rice and Marjorie Cooke who washed bath towels for team members. To the Nevada Griffons organization who provided a discounted price for the team to attend a Griffons game. To the YMCA for allowing the use of their showers each day. Last but not least to Bill, Linda and Nicholas Crawford for their work in getting the church building ready, dealing with trash each day and getting classrooms reset for Sunday morning.

I am sure that I have forgotten to mention someone and for that I am sorry. The end result however was a great experience for the team and the good work that they did for some people right here in Nevada.
