Anniversary Celebration

Methodism came to what is now Nevada in October, 1841. In the fall of 1840, John Hale and Jesse Anderson moved to this area with their families to establish farms and were the first settlers in Center Township. It was on the Anderson farm in October, 1841 that Rev. Reuben Aldridge organized the first Methodist "Class". The Rev. Lorenzo Waugh, a CircuitRider, was assigned to hold services for this newly formed Methodist "Class". From the early CircuitRiders came 4 Methodist congregations in Nevada and over 3 dozen in Vernon County. October, 2011 will mark the 170th Anniversary of Methodism in the Nevada Area.
